Encounter

After a short hiatus through 2018, taking time to get to grips with being a new parent, I returned to the studio and made a new artwork for an exhibition in Durham.

Encounter at Ustinov College, Durham – Exploring the encounter between climate change, nature and society.

Published article

As 2012 draws to a close I am delighted to announce that my research from earlier this year has now been published. The article analyses works by artist and former Newcastle University Fine Art Student Mark Lancaster (b.1938) who studied under Richard Hamilton from 196-64. The works I analyse are a combination of the artist’s set exercises from the basic design course at Newcastle in the 60s and are contrasted with works completed by Lancaster after graduation.

The article is published in Volume 1, issue 3 of Visual Inquiry. The focus of the Journal is on arts education and celebrates the rich traditions of art making and teaching. The Journal is published by Intellect, an independent academic publisher in the fields of creative practice and popular culture. They publish scholarly books and journals that aim to provide a vital space for widening critical debate in new and emerging subjects.

You can purchase a copy from the website. http://www.intellectbooks.co.uk/journals/view-issue,id=2346/

And elsewhere, I am writing a new blog in tandem with my studies at the University of York. The blog ispart of a group of post-grad students aptly entitled Strange Bedfellows, who write and reflect on the relationship between academic study and the creative endeavours of the individual. Catch up with my occasionally witty textual visions of life as a post-grad art student who has mischievously side stepped the shadows of art-making and entered into the academic world of art history scholars.

(update: the blog is expired + no longer exists)

As part of the blog I contribute a new or unseen work to complement the writing. Most recently I presented this drawing from memory of an arcade machine.

So as 2012 is nearly fully downloaded lets change the game cartridge and start loading 2013.
